Sometimes, you need a no boys allowed girls weekend. Especially when it means being in Boston at a fancy hotel and doing all of your favorite things!
Last weekend, I met up with my college best friend for a weekend in the city. We met up in Boston for a weekend of theatre, drinks, and cannolis– the best way to spend a winter night in beantown. We got in to the downtown area in the late afternoon and checked in at the Omni Parker House.
Let me just say that this is one of the most beautiful hotels that I have ever stayed at. I’ve been to one other Omni hotel before, the Mount Washington Hotel, for dinner but staying at one of these hotels has always been a dream for me. What can I say, I like to spoil myself sometimes! This hotel is the oldest hotel in Boston and the longest continuously operating hotel in the United States. It is also where the Saturday Club, made up of writers like Emerson and Thoreau, met during America’s Golden Age. It also happens to be where the Boston Cream Pie was perfected. Pretty neat, right?
Anyways, once we got there, the two of us got all dressed up for a night with the American Repetory Theatre. Later that night we would be going to see them put on The Donkey Show at their Oberon Theatre in Cambridge.
Now, I’m a theatre kid. Always have been. And I love Shakespeare. So when Callie said she had purchased us tickets for this retelling of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, I was down. Especially at an experimental theatre. Without spoiling the whole show, let me just say that The Donkey Show is incredible and like no show I’ve been to before. Instead of sitting in seats and watching the action on the stage, you’re in a night club and the action is happening all around you. There is dancing and 70s disco hits. It was insane and mesmerizing. I highly recommend it.
Once the show was over, we headed back to the hotel for some drinks and to relax a bit. We really just needed to get our heels off.
The next morning, we checked out of the hotel and grabbed a quick breakfast before heading to Primark to do some shopping. Primark is one of our pilgrimage locations in the city because we love their clothes and everything else sold in this four level shop. We picked out some Valentine’s Day items and looked for work clothes and shoes before moving on to the next location: Mike’s.
If you’ve never been to Boston, let me fill you in. Mike’s has the best cannolis in the city. The. Best. Don’t let anyone tell you that is is Modern. They’re okay but Mike’s are way, way, way better.
Anyways, we went in and picked up a few things before finally ending our weekend and heading off in opposite directions for home.
This was a weekend getaway that I desperately needed and can’t wait to get to do again. Especially when the spring comes!
