Winter in New England only seems like the right time of year to travel if you’re heading somewhere way warmer than our average 36 degrees daily high. Trust me, if I could head out to California for a couple of weeks this winter to warm up, I would. There’s something great about winter in New England though. For a while it feels like some magic has returned to the world and there is just a different feel in the air. That could also just be your nose hairs freezing immediately when you step outside and it is five degrees though…
Anyways, we can’t all afford to go somewhere warmer in the winter and there are so many great things to see and do during the winter here in the Northeast. So, here is my winter travel bucket list for winter 2019.
The Ice Castle– Lincoln, New Hampshire
If you’ve followed my blog for a while now, you know that I love going up to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. I try and go up a few times a year and whenever I’m there, it just feels like home. In the winter, the popular ski area gains an extra attraction in the form of the Lincoln Ice Castle. While not unique to Lincoln, it is kind of a unique experience.
Deck the Halls– Newport Mansions, Newport, Rhode Island
Okay, first things first. These mansions NEVER would have been done up like this. Ever. By the time Christmas came around, those houses would have been long boarded up for the season. With that said, there is just something magical about going to see the holiday decorations of long ago…
CT Winter Wine Trail– Connecticut
While looking at interesting things to try this winter, I came across a competition from this past January where people could visit different wineries here in Connecticut and if they visited all of the ones on the competition list, they could win a prize. Although the organizing wineries haven’t announced if they’ll be doing it again this winter, I can’t help but think of how much fun wine tasting with my friends would be in late January!
What places or activities are on your bucket list this winter?
