So after a long drive home and a day to recoup, time to get back to blogging! Over the weekend, I was up in the White Mountains to celebrate my 24th birthday. It was just what I needed after a crazy week of work.
After a rather annoying drive up with Tim’s car getting a flat tire and us running super late on Friday, we finally made it to the White Mountains! We quickly set up our tent at Lafayette Campground before changing into our nice clothes for dinner at the Mount Washington Hotel. This has been on my bucket list since I was a pre-teen so I was excited that Tim and I were able to make it happen. We had late dinner reservations at Stickney’s at the Mount Washington Hotel and made it just in time. The food was delicious and honestly it was some of the best service I’ve ever had at a restaurant.
After dinner, we went back to the campground and set up a nice fire and relaxed in the autumn night air. Sure, it was freezing out, but it was great to just hang out fireside.
Saturday morning, we woke up to some rain. The inside of the tent had stayed dry and warm but that just made it harder to actually get started for the day. Eventually, we made it out and into the car to find some hot breakfast. The Art of the Breakfast to be exact. We ended up going to the Woodstock Inn for a big breakfast. If you can make it up to North Woodstock, New Hampshire, this place has a great breakfast. The staff was incredible and super friendly. Before you even order, they bring you out a basket of sticky buns and a whole pot of coffee. I ended up getting grilled apples crepes and Tim had eggs balsamo. Yum!
After breakfast, we went for a hike up to Lonesome Lake. Now, October in New Hampshire can have weather going from 70 degrees and sunny to snowing in the snap of a finger. Which it did. It was 50 ish and raining when we started our hike up the mountain and about half way up it started snowing. It was simply stunning to be in the middle of the forest with the snow just coming down around us. Beautiful. When we got to the lake, the view was gorgeous. You could see the trees changing color closer to the lake but above them were the pine trees just encased in ice and snow already. There is nothing better than a view like that.
That night, we checked in to the Grand Summit Hotel at Attitash following a drive along the Kanc. We ordered pizza and just relaxed together while watching Monster’s Inc. It was simple yet perfect.
The next day it was time to head home. Neither one of us wanted to leave but we had a lunch date with my college bestie, Callie at my alma mater. It was the perfect way to end birthday get away weekend!
24 is off to a great start and I can’t wait to see what else this year has to offer!
