Summer has always been one of my favorite times of year. Sure, it is hot and humid. It is also full of adventure. There was always something new to do. That feeling definitely seems to have slowed down over the years but that doesn’t mean that, as an adult, I’ll never get to feel that again. Summer is what you make of it! So, today we’re looking back at some of my favorite Summer memories!
Niagara Falls, Canada
To be honest, I can’t remember what year this was. When I was a kid, we would go to Canada every other year if not every year. We went to Niagara, Quebec City, Mont Tremblant and other beautiful places. This is one of the first trips that I remember going on and it was awesome. We drove up, because my parents trained us very young to go on long road trips, and spent a few days seeing the falls.
Summer Camp: Camp Aya Po
For year I went to this camp. Years. It was something that I looked forward to every year. I met some pretty cool people by going to this camp. We were all so weird together and it was great. This picture was from our “Emo Day”. This is probably around 2007 and we all wanted to show just how emo we could be. We also had a “club” at camp that’s central idea was the Wyoming Doesn’t Exist.
Wildcat Mountain, White Mountains, NH
This was one hell of a family vacation. The year that we went in this picture was also the year that we went and did something EVERYDAY. We would do a hike and then go to an attraction– like Six Gun City or Whales’ Tale. It was a great way to kind of end the “childhood” family vacations since after this we definitely started doing less things like that. And nowadays we usually all go and do our own things.
The Grand Canyon
My parents would never and will never take us to Disney. They did take us to a lot of National Parks and other amazing places. In 2008, we went out west and spent a week going from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon to Bryce Canyon, to Zion Canyon and back. It was amazing. The picture doesn’t do justice to the colors of the Grand Canyon. I will say, Zion is better.
Washington DC, Monticello, and Myrtle Beach
A couple of years ago, we did a family trip down to Myrtle Beach. We drove from Connecticut to South Carolina and made a few stops on the way. On the way down, we spent two days in Washington DC and visited my cousins before they moved. On the way up, we stopped at Shenandoah National Park and Monticello. This was, by far, one of my favorite trips.
Chicago & Lollapalooza 2012
This was my first “adult” trip even though I was traveling with my brother and 17…. I hadn’t been to Chicago in probably 10 years at this point and was back to Lollapalooza– Thank Uncle Nelson! My brother and I got to spend a whole week out in the city before the shows began and it was a blast.
We’ll cut off this post in 2014 and come back again soon with my recent summer memories. What is you favorite childhood summer memory?
