I feel like I say this every month, especially lately, but where the hell did June go? For me, yet again, this was a busy and exciting month. I started the month with my college best friend coming to visit for the weekend and taking her to the casino for the first time.
A few weeks after that visit, Tim and I went and hiked up Mount Washington and spent a lovely weekend up in the White Mountains.
This weekend, to wrap up the month, I’ll be at my cousin’s wedding at Mohegan Sun! Look for a post related to that coming soon!
Alright, now that I’ve recapped June, here are my favorite things from this past month.
Time for my favorite part of this monthly series: make up!
Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara- So I needed a change after using my Urban Decay Perversion Mascara for so long. It just isn’t always the right choice. I switched over to the Gifted mascara and I LOVE it. The brush, which I honestly didn’t love at first, does amazing things to my lashes. Especially for my every day look. Simple, no clumps, separates my lashes. That is everything that I want. Not to mention it is great for when my eyes are feeling sensitive. You can’t ask for anything better than this mascara!
I don’t usually include a snack or food section in my monthly favorites but this month suddenly gave me a craving for mochi. Specifically mochi ice cream. I tried some while I was visiting my friend, Bree, in Los Angeles in May and for some reason this month I just wanted more. Luckily one of the grocery stores near my house has a good selection. If you’re looking to try some, here’s my top pick after trying My/Mo and Mr. Mochi.
My/Mo Sweet Mango Mochi Ice Cream- When comparing the two options, My/Mo is better in everything except for packaging. Mr. Mochi has the better packaging, in my opinion since the box is smaller (thus easier to store in the freezer) and the mochi is packaged individually so it doesn’t start immediately melting. The My/Mo mochi ice cream is, by far, my favoirte. The mochi is chewy in justthe right way and they give you a generous serving of ice cream for 110 calories. Mr. Mochi’s mochi is definitely a bit more grainy after a while. Or so it was in my batch of their chocolate flavor.
I have seen a good amount of movies this month. I went to see Solo: A Star Wars Story, I saw Incredibles 2, andddddd… Okay, I guess I only saw two movies but they were some of the “big” movies coming out. If I had to pick between them, Incredibles 2 wins. Hands down.
This movie is a gen and much needed for all of us doom and gloom millennials who have been waiting for this movie to come out for fourteen years! They even poke fun at that fact with a pre-movie interview with the voice actors. What makes this movie shine is who they built on a story without it being cheesy. The Jack Jack scenes, while my absolute favorite parts in the movie, don’t overshadow the real world problems that have become a part of the movie. We see what happens when you do a role reversal and have the dad at home with the kids while mom is making all of the money. There is a political message. This movie just has a lot and I highly recommend it.
When I say television, I just mean shows that run in series nowadays. The show, or rather the episode, that I’m highlighting as a favorite is from The Handmaid’s Tale which is on Hulu.
The Handmaid’s Tale, Season 2, Episode 11: Holly– With only a few more episodes to go, “Holly” has become one of the best episodes in this season so far. Elizabeth Moss, who is in almost every scene, gives an incredible performance. Honestly, watch it so I don’t have to spoil the episode. Right now anyways. We get to pull the mask a bit further off Gilead and it’s founders and find that things are further from perfect than we could have thought. It is a beautiful and powerful episode. Now I just need to do some research into what those maps were of in the background of a few scenes. I’m curious!
Those are my favorite things for this month. I know, no music but oh well. July, here’s looking at you kid! Lets see what fun and adventure the next month brings on.
