It is a new year and that means it is time for a little bit of self reflection before moving on into 2018. To do that this year, I’m doing a Get to Know Me Tag. While this isn’t the deepest of self reflections, it seems like a fun way to start off the year!
1. Are you named after anyone?
Kind of. While pregnant with me, my mom was on bed rest and watched a lot of Bewitched. If you don’t know, Bewitched is a show about a witch named Samantha who marries a mortal and has to deal with the supernatural and normal life. It’s a great classic television show. Anyways, since she watched it so much I was named after the main character. There also may have been some connection to the character Sami on Days of Our Lives.
2. What is your middle name?
Nichole. This was almost my first name but my parents decided that Samantha Nichole sounded better. At the end of the day, they just wanted to give me a name that had a more traditionally masculine nick name. Samantha goes to Sam. Nichole goes to Nick or Nicky. Funny thing is, I was told for years that my middle name was spelled wrong. Turns out that my dad picked the French spelling of the name!
3. What is your favorite song at the moment?
High by Sir Sly.
4. Furthest you’ve been from home?
Las Vegas, Nevada– which is a whopping 2,662 miles away from home! We only stayed here over night though before going to both rims of the Grand Canyon; Bryce Canyon; and Zion Canyon on vacation. It was still one of my favorite trips!
5. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
England. Preferably London or Brighton. Or somewhere in the Netherlands.
6. What is your dream job?
Once upon a time in college, I had the start of my dream job: social media manager. I’m working to head back into that field but at the moment it is still a dream. I loved it so much when I was working as a social media assistant at the University of New Hampshire. I loved getting to learn about professional social media, attending university events and getting behind the scenes access, and everything about the job. The opportunities that I got from the job were amazing too! Through this job, I got to be a “contractor” for Snapchat, covering the 2016 Democratic Debate between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders (which was on my campus) and I got to attend the New Hampshire Film Festival two years in a row. Oh, and I got to be the social media manager for a TedX event! Damn I miss that job.
7. Do you have any siblings?
Yes, one younger brother.
8. Do you have any pets?
Yes! The best dog ever! Well, actually he just has his moments. Still love him to death though.
9. Describe your relationship with your parents.
We’ve always had this weird mix of friends and parents type of relationship. My parents, at times, can really act like someone my age or younger. At other time they are deep into the being a parent. Over all, we have a very close and friendly relationship though that I’m very lucky to have.
10. Favorite concert you’ve ever been to.
Save Rock and Roll Arena tour. That was my first time seeing Twenty One Pilots and I’ve been a fan ever since. Plus those of us who got to go to this show are considered the “blessed” because we got to see Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, and Twenty One Pilots. It was an amazing show and we got to end the night by meeting Tyler and Josh!
11. What concerts have you been to?
Avril Lavigne with Boys Like Girls (2008); The Steve Miller Band; Weird Al; Lollapalooza 2012: The Black Keys, M83, Metric, Tame Impala, Sharon Van Etten, The Growlers, Animal Kingdom, Bloc Party, Delta Spirit, Alabama Shakes, Jeff the Brotherhood, FIDLAR, Laura Warshauer, Florence + the Machine, Justice, The Gaslight Anthem, Dum Dum Girls, White Rabbits, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Oberhofer, Hey Rosetta!; Yellowcard with The Wonder Years, We Are the In Crowd, and Sandlot Heroes (2012); Old Gray; The World is a Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die; I Kill Giants; Fall Out Boy with NK; Fall Out Boy with Panic! at the Disco and Twenty One Pilots; Twenty One Pilots with Hunter Hunted and NONONO; Fall Out Boy with Paramore; Boston Calling: Twenty One Pilots, The 1975, Lake Street Dive; Twenty One Pilots with Finish Ticket and Echosmith; Lollapalooza 2016: Radio Head, LCD Soundsystem, Lana Del Rey, The 1975, Halsey, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, City and Colour, Silversun Pickups, St. Lucia, Alessia Cara, Houndmouth, Melanie Martinez, Frank Turner, The Joy Formidable, FIDLAR, Chairlift, Wavves, Modern Baseball, PVRIS; Panic! at the Disco with Saint Motel and MisterWives.
I’m definitely missing some people off this list too….
12. Have you ever met any celebrities?
Yup! Tyler and Josh from Twenty One Pilots, Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy, Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer, Mike O’Malley, Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers.
13. Favorite beverage?
My vice is Coke Zero. My favorite alcoholic drink is a rum and coke.
14. Favorite thing about your hometown?
I’m from Hartford, CT originally where we used to have the Whalers hockey team (now the Hurricanes). Hartford is a city stuck lost in time, which has always stuck with me. It is a city that got lost in its past which kind of messed up their future. Heck, even their present. The spirit of Hartford, which is one of hope, is one of my favorite things about the city. No matter how bad things get, there is this sense that things can get better.
15. Favorite movie?
This is a hard one. I’d say Arsenic and Old Lace for favorite classic, Sleeping Beauty for favorite Disney movie, Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter for favorite series. I just love movies so it is definitely hard to pick a favorite.
16. Favorite book?
This is actually really hard to pick too. I read so much, or at least I used to, that I have a lot of favorite books. Harry Potter, Gone Girl, Egghead, The Romanov Sisters, The Princess Saves Herself in This One, just to name a few.
17. Longest had friend?
Bree, 9 years and counting! We think we’ve known each other longer than that since our parents worked for the same company when we were younger. The company always did Easter egg rolls and other holiday events for the families so chances are that we met back in the 1990s and not for the first time in 2008.
18. What is your favorite season?
Autumn. Maybe it is because of the colors on the tress or Halloween. Most likely it is because my birthday is in October.
19. Guilty pleasure?
Sometimes I just love watching TLC shows. They are so terrible but… well, there is no but. They are pure bubble gum for the brain.
20. What is your relationship status?
Currently dating my boyfriend, Tim. We’ll have been together for a year in February.
21. Favorite moment of your relationship so far?
Camping in the White Mountains has been one of my favorite things we’ve done together. We always have great stories when we get home from a camping trip.
22. Do you prefer going out or staying in for New Year’s Eve?
Before turning 21, I didn’t mind staying in. My parents would let my brother and I have friends over so we always have fun. Nowadays though, we head over to Mohegan Sun casino to ring in the new year!
23. What has changed for you in 2017?
I changed jobs, got better and more into my blog, I got into a happy relationship. All good things 🙂
24. Where are you spending New Year’s Eve?
We’re heading to Mohegan Sun for one of the parties there for the New Year. Time to dress up and have some fun! Although I do have to work first…
25. What are you most excited for in 2018?
