Holiday Bucket List

With that kind of doom and gloom feeling being ever persistent lately, I really couldn’t wait to write this blog post. During the 2016 holiday season, I was struggling with some personal issues and a good amount of depression. I just couldn’t get into the holiday spirit. This year though, November 1st came and I was PUMPED for the holidays. I had Christmas carols going through my head and I immediately started planning for an Ugly Sweater Holiday Party for December. I can’t even remember being this excited about the holidays in a long time. I guess that just speaks to how much can change and make your life better in a year.

With all of that said, let me share some of the things that I have on my Holiday Bucket List for this year. If the holidays aren’t your thing, don’t worry! I’ll have a general winter bucket list coming soon!

Lights, Lights, Lights

I don’t know about you guys, but I love light displays this time of years. When I was a kid, the family would always head down to Constitution Plaza in Downtown Hartford for the Festival of Lights. There would be caroling and Santa would land on one of the building around the plaza to deliver a message to all of the local kids. It was magical. Unfortunately, Hartford stopped doing this event a few years ago due to budget cuts. Luckily, they did keep Holiday Light Fantasia in Goodwin Park– which was another Holiday go to for my family! My parents would load us all into the car and then we’d do the drive around the park taking in all of the light displays of everything from Harry Potter to your generic holiday images. Going to these events are still some of my favorite holiday memories.

As an adult who can drive myself now, I can’t wait to go through the park to see these lights and maybe head off to another light display somewhere else in the state. For me, I’m looking at Holiday Light Fantasia in Hartford and Holiday Lights in Bristol at Lake Compounce to stay local and see some holiday displays.

Along with light displays, the annual tree lightings are usually a great time for the whole family as well! My town uses the tree lighting in December as a way to get food donations for the local food bank. Others in the area are just for fun. If I can schedule my time right, I’m hoping to cross off the Boston tree lighting from my bucket list.

Ugly Sweater Party

I’ve been trying to organize one of these parties for YEARS now. This year, I’m gonna make it happen. If this is gonna happen though, I wanna go all out! Don’t worry reader, you’ll get to read all about it when this party happens!

Movie Marathon

This is my go to activity every year. I love sitting down for hours and watching all of my favorite Christmas movies. Most of these are the old animated Rankin and Bass movies because they are the best. Below, you can find my go to list of Christmas Movies:

While this list is short and simple, sometimes that is all you need for the holiday season. I don’t know about you guys but the holidays are always super hectic around my house so I need a short, sweet, and simple holiday bucket list!

Let me know what’s on your list in the comments!
